The Park Hyatt occupies the 79th-93rd floors of the Shanghai World Financial Center - one of the highest hotels in the world. Needless to say, the views of the city and Huangpu river are stunning. Minimalist-styled rooms have all the high-tech facilities including a motion sensor in the toilet! Huge rain showers and a large tub to soak in. We bet you will not find a pool and gym on a higher floor anywhere in the world. The hotel has won awards many years in a row for their approach to LGBT equality.

The luxurious Les Suites Orient Bund is located in the centre of Shanghai, offering great views over the Huangpu River and the Pudong high-rise neighbourhood. The designers successfully combine art deco with traditional Oriental style. The rooms have all the amenities you would expect from a 5-star hotel. We recommend the River View room. Surprisingly good value for money and excellent service. This hotel is proud to publicly state that it is gay-friendly. We like that.

Great choice if you're on a budget or looking for a smaller hotel near the Old French Concession. The Asset is conveniently located near the Shanghai Stadium and metro station. Shopping in Xujiahui commercial area, Xintiandi street and many of the best gay venues in the city are within 15 minutes away. Each modern room has cable TV and free WiFi in all areas.  A breakfast buffet is included in the low rates, and there is free coffee in the common area.

Excellent-value apartments in a 5-storey building.  Located in Jing'an District, Ladoll is a 5-minute walk to Jing'an Temple and metro station, and a 15-minute walk to Xintiandi shopping and entertainment quarter. Each studio and suite has a kitchenette, living area, flat screen TV and free WiFi.  Free laundry services and free DVD rentals are available. There is no restaurant onsite, but plenty of dining choices are nearby.

This 26-storey City Hotel offers 270 rooms & suites at reasonable rates, with 5 dining options as well as an indoor pool, gym, sauna and spa. Guest rooms are decent-sized, well-maintained and feature all the modern comforts. Located in Shanghai's commercial area, with easy access to Xintiandi (2 km), The Bund and major sights via the nearby Shaanxi South Road subway station or by taxi.

Perhaps just slightly elegant but definitely economic.  The Elegance Bund boutique hotel offers over 120 rooms with unique East-meets-West design.  Each room has central air conditioning, flat screen TV, mini-fridge and free WiFi. The hotel enjoys panoramic views of Huangpu River with its almost-riverside location, just a block away from The Bund and a 5-minute walk from East Nanjing Road subway station. The onsite restaurant specialises in Chinese cuisine and is open breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Great choice for The Bund area.

Perhaps our favorite choice for this area. This great-value Ascott Huai Hai Road is just a 10-minute walk from Xintiandi shopping, entertainment and nightlife. Each soundproof apartment is fully functional with a well-equipped kitchen, washer, fridge and large living area. Guests get free access to the heated indoor pool and state-of-the-art gym. The South Huangpi Road metro station is a short walk away and provides easy connections to the rest of Shanghai.

The Pullman Shanghai Jing An offers 5-star accommodation in the heart of the city, about 10-15 minutes drive from The Bund, French Concession area and People’s Square. Modern guest rooms feature free WiFi, 37" flat screen TV, floor-to-ceiling windows with city views. Facilities include two restaurants, bar, a well-equipped gym, spa, sauna & massage service. The Pullman's central location, close to the Shanghai Train Station, makes it a popular choice with gay travelers and gay couples.
